Upcoming Classes At Saltbox Primitive Woolens

Basic Quilting Classes
Starting January 10 and continuing every Tuesday as long as there is interest, Beverly Rhoades will be teaching Basic Quilting from 10-12, break for lunch and the afternoon will be sewing and any extra help needed.
The class will begin with a sampler quilt (pictured below) by Leisure Arts. In this class you will begin by learning how to use templates as well as a rotary cutter. The class will be for a novice or someone wanting a refresher course and fun making a sampler quilt.

Requirements for the class will be a one time book purchase of $12.95 and each class will be $5.00 You can bring your own fabrics or choose to purchase them at Saltbox Primitive Woolens.

The class is $25.00 and includes the kit. The book is $25.00 and is FREE with the class.

The pattern is called Midnight Garden Wall Hanging from Meadow Threads a Need'l Love Book by Renee Nanneman. The size is 16 x 20. Must be registered by January 20 in order for kits to be ready.

Flower Power Class
February 16

Flower Power by Pat Van Arsdale (pictured below)

This is a class combining nine different fiber techniques. The class is $75.00 and includes the kit and book.

Recipes Still Needed
Please send any recipes you would like to include in the Saltbox Cookbook. We desperately need recipes. Please send to Patty at the shop via USPS mail or email.

Recipes Needed

Saltbox is going to print a cookbook! Now we know there are LOTS of good cooks out there—and we NEED your help. We are looking for 400 recipes to be included in the cookbook. Please send your recipes to Patty at the shop via email or USPS. There is a form all the recipes will need to be put on. We have people willing to type them onto the form, but if you would like a copy of the form, please let Patty know and she will email it to you.

So please send recipes. The recipes are needed by February to get them in the format needed and published in a timely manner.

2012 Block of the Month

Register now for this Block of the Month Quilt. The pattern is Sweet Home by Heart to Hand. We will meet on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 til 2:00. There is a sign up fee of $10.00 and the class will be $25.00 a month with a finishing kit available for $45.00 Please contact Patty at the shop for registration and further details.

Patty Wallace and her Flock broke out in a flash mob after lunch. They all donned white stocking hats with ears and sang a song "I Am A Lamb" to the tune of "Barbara Ann." Here are some pictures and the words to the song are below the pictures.

June 25 Hook In

Almost thirty rug hookers from across the state gathered at Saltbox Primitive Woolens Shop for a Hook In on June 25. It was a full house! It is always fun to see everyone's projects. Here are some pictures of the group.

These four ladies won the door prizes.

Twister Quilt Project Class

Would you like to learn how to make this 53 inch square "Twister" quilt project? Come to Saltbox Primitive Woolens on two nights—September 20 and September 27, from 5:30-8:30 each evening. The cost will be $15.00, but if you purchase material at the shop you will receive $10.00 off the class fee. Contact Patty or Debbie at the shop for registration and materials needed.

Grandchild Number Six

We have a new grandson. Our son, Michael, and Brandy blessed us with number six grandchild. Harry Ozzie Wallace was born May 19th weighing in at 7 lbs. 10 oz. and 21 inches long.

Thank you Lord for "little Ozzie" born May 19th and Happy Birthday to "big Ozzie" May 31.

Saturday was Block of the Month

Saturday was Block of the Month at the shop. This year’s quilt is called “Flowers” by Linda Brannock, who just happens to be the sister of our very own Katie. The quilt incorporates wool appliqué and Moda fabrics. We have several people signed up and received block #4 this month.

This is the quilt, completed by Shirley Rosinski, Bev Rhoades, Beverly Ekstrand and Katie Paxton.

Truman Lake Rug Show and Hook In

I want to share with you an exciting, upcoming event. Saltbox Primitive Woolens is hosting a Rug Show and Hook In on September 10, 2011 from 9:00-3:00 at the Warsaw Community Building in Warsaw, Missouri.

Cost of registratation is $12.00 before July 31st, and $15.00 after July 31st. Contact me at Saltbox Primitive Woolens shop for registration. The cost includes admission, snacks, drinks, and door prizes. Lunch will be available on site.

A prize will be awarded for Best of Show for all rugs entered in the rug show. Vendors on site will include: Wendy Miller, Anita White, Maggie Bonanomi, Melissa Towne and more! I will post more on these vendors later.

The rug show will be open to the public and separate from the Hook In.

Saltbox Spring Hook-In

Saturday, March 19 was the Spring Hook In at Saltbox. We also had "Saving of the Green" (a sale) in conjuction with the hook in. What a busy day! It was a packed house, we had to turn down some reservations. Here are some pictures from the day. I will try to post more pictures later.

Katie Debbie and I were sitting by the fireplace just stitching and hooking away and Katie says if you don't get to blogging I would drop of her list. So I couldn't let that happen.
Its about time so I am making time. The shop is closed and it is raining outside ..quite here.

Tomorrow is hooking day at the Saltbox and it is always a fun day. We have been having about 18-25. Lots of new friends and projects.

Tomorrow some of us will be leaving to go to my sister Linda's home for a night of hooking and off Saturday to go to the Rock Creek Hook In and Rug Show. I will take pictures and try to post them next week...yes next week.

So I am back to blogging and will try to post weekly.

Debbie's Rug is done!

Debbie finished her rug and we love it. Our frame man is making a frame and Debbie is hoping to enter it in the 2011 Missouri State Fair.This could be why she couldn't get it finished. It is hard to hook with Milly on you frame.

The "Flock" Meeting

The first Tuesday of each month the Flock meets and plans for the month.
Let me tell you a little about the Flock. They are a group that I should call angels instead of the Flock because that's what they seem to me.
They come in (bring refreshements) and gather around a table and begin to set schedules, projects etc. for the coming month.
They have almost completed cutting the quilt kits for the BOM 2011.
They have made the gifts to be given away at the Christmas Party.
They decorate, clean, cut wool, wash wool, price items, greet customers and the list goes on and on.
We are totally blessed. God is good all the time!

Oh and did I forget they all volunteer their time and talents. See what I mean.....I am blessed!

LICA December Meeting

Monday December 6th was the Christmas dinner at Saltbox Primitive Woolens

for Ozzie's Land Improvement Contractors Association.

We had dinner and the Beyer family blessed us with some christmas carols.

Day One at Ruth Lodge

We are so blessed to have Marie Schmitt from Wisconsin. She has been hooking for over 50 years and taught hooking and advanced tailoring at 6 colleges. She recycles nearly all of her wool and does some awesome swatch dying. So we have been doing lots of dying and learning how to shade. Hope you enjoy some of the pictures.

Baa Baa Booneville

Saturday was such a beautiful day. Linda, Bev, Karen and I went to Booneville and did some rug hooking along with some shopping. Such a neat little town with some cool shops. We went to a shop called Never The Same. I forgot her name but the owner is so talented she takes things most of us would call junk and makes awesome furniture, shelves and etc.

The Booneville girls hosted a great day. Lots of food, friends and of course some beautiful rugs. Hats off to a job well done!

Judy Cripps Workshop

Do you know what a beauty line is? If you are putting a two color border on your rug, do you know which goes to the outside - the lighter or darker color?

Well, if you were one of the twelve gals at Saltbox Primitive Woolens last Saturday (October 23) you would know the answers. We were fortunate to have Judy Cripps from Rustic Rugs in Topeka, Kansas conducting a "Borders" Workshop. Each participant was able to choose one of two rugs Judy designed just for this workshop. Here are the samples of the two rugs. The first one is Patty's Saltbox the second one is Debbie's House of Doom.

Judy Cripps has been rug hooking since 1985 when she and her friend, Lynda, started taking classes in fine hooking from Margaret Masters. Judy brought some of her rugs to show the different kinds of borders and gave tips on each of them. Each person received individual help from Judy in designing their border. Judy shared all kinds of tips for rug hooking with the group. It was a fun day, enjoyed by all. Here is Judy at the workshop.

One another, different note - Warsaw Girls Softball played Palmyra for 1st place last weekend in the State Playoffs. After a weather delay on Saturday, the game resumed in the fourth inning on Monday. Warsaw won, 4-0. Our niece, Mackensie Wallace, who is a sophomore, was on the winning team and hit an out-of-the-park home run in the championship game. This is Makensie with the 1st place trophy.

Congratulations Mackensie and all the Lady Wildcats! We are proud of you!

Open Hooking Friday

As with most Fridays, last Friday was a fun day at the shop. We have open hooking on Fridays and gals just come and go during the day as their schedules permit. Ann again provided a wonderful lunch with two kinds of enchiladas; Creamy Chicken Enchiladas and Enchilada Casserole. Once again we are so thankful for her cooking skills and her willingness to share it with us. Speaking of Ann - she is now the proud owner of a new project bag - thanks to Deanna. Here is a picture of her with her new bag and the old one. She had a name tag on the old one (trash bag) to make sure she wouldn't get it mixed up with anyone else's project bag.

This is a rug Linda is working on. She is using all of her wool strips left from other projects. A great way to use odds and ends.

Now this is her dog, Lucy, sitting in the middle of it. Linda just hooked around her. Isn't she just about the cutest thing!

Busy Time At Saltbox

October has been a busy month at Saltbox Primitive Woolens. The Dogwood Trails Quilt Shop Hop, which was three days, brought lots of people to the shop. This picture tells all.

We participated in the 1800 demonstrations at Harry S. Truman Visitor's Center last weekend during Heritage Days.

This week there will be open hooking on Friday, October 22 and Judy Cripps is teaching a "Borders" class at the shop on Saturday.

Ruth Lodge Hook In Retreat

Ruth Lodge Hook In Retreat will be November 8-13. Reservations are required with limited enrollment. Cost is $125.00, with a deposit of $50.00 due October 22. Check-in will be Monday, November 8 after 10:00 AM. Breakfast will be provided, lunch on your own, and each “group” will be responsible for one evening meal. You will need to bring your own bedding (twin beds), towels, and your hooking projects and supplies. Fall Hook In

What a fun day at the rug shop today. Thirty-eight hookers joined us at the shop today for a Fall Hook In. Seeing all of the beautiful rugs everyone is working on and enjoying the great company of fellow "hookers" is so much fun. Will try to post pictures of some of the projects that people are working on later. The photos below are pictures of everyone working hard.

Quilt Shops and Thrifting

We had so much fun just getting out with friends!
We went to Primitive Stitches today and had so much fun shopping at Melissa's great stitchery shop. She manages to get so much done and is so willing to share her knowledge and love of the craft.

Also I forgot to thank Shirley for teaching the girls the "Bow Tuck" purse class. Thank you !

August Quilt Day

Today was a great time at Saltbox Primitive Woolens. It was our first Monday of the month sewing day.

The project this month was the "Bow Tuck" purse.

Pam chose some fall designs.

Helen chose the Montana Modern fabric.

The two Beverlys did a wonderful job.

Joy chose some bright stripes and floral

Everyone had a good time and a new purse in one day!

We also had 4 friends come from the city to shop for new wool rug projects. I thought they were going to have to rent a trailer to get it all home. Thanks to Becky, Janelle, Mary Ann and Sheryl for all their support. They also brought a new friend sorry I can't remember her name.
They come to Warsaw for some Girl Time and antique shopping.
What a fun group.

Well I am off today for some girl time with Debbie, Katie, and Peggy. We are headed to Primitive Stitches to see Melissa and the gang. She is having a stitchery block of the month that we just have to check out. then who knows where we will decide to go..........later Patty

Beginnings and Blessings

Well I am about to begin a new venture at much encouragement for my mentor and friend Katie I am doing my first blog. Hope I don't disappoint you Katie.

Now for the blessing I have had the 2 youngest grandkids for 4 days and long nights.

Khannor is 6 and Lexee is 18 months.

This week at the shop we are expecting the new wool from Rebecca Erb and Heavens to Betsy.

Friday is our hooking day and I got a call from a group of women (or hookers) from Dixon MO

Hopefullly they will be joining us.

Saturday I have a group of 4-5 from Columbia area. It was great to hear from them and looking forward to our visit. We are open Thurs.-Friday 10-4 and Saturday 10-2 or just call and we can meet you when it works. 660-438-6002 shop 660-438-2868 home.

Hours after Labor Day will be Tuesday to Friday 10-4 and Saturday 10 to 2.
